Hoddmimir Demesne

The gates of the Demesne are guarded by a pair of Elven Saints, appearing more like knights. The armor they wore was surreal, distorting the patterns of their bodies by a series of small cloaks hanging from their arms and legs. Each cloak is covered in light chain, threaded so tightly that they resemble thick rope. The inner great hall beyond these saints is a large gnarled and twisted tree, appearing to be the oldest in the forest. Many Ents roam through this area, acting like oversized gardeners for the foliage in the Demesne.

Beowulf stopped at the Elven Saints and bowed low before them. "I come to request an audience with m'lady Uldrahad and I humbly ask that I may be allowed your guidance to her," he asked sounding as humble as possible. He did not know the general temperament of elves, but he did not want to sound rude or push his luck as a human in an elven city.

"To discuss trade route arrangements?" one of the saints asked, having been informed that a human would make his way to the demesne.

"Yes, that is what I am here to discuss with m'lady Uldrahad," Beowulf said with a warm smile and a kind nod. He hoped that he would be welcomed a little bit more warmly by the Lady of the Wood.

"Down that path, to the temporary arboretum." the saint directed, holding out his hand to the small altar surrounded by trees. A woman, wearing the clothing that the lady Uldrahad wore during their encounter was walking among the trees while waiting for the emissary to arrive.

Beowulf bowed again to the saints. "Thank you gentlemen," he said as he turned to walk down the path they had directed them to. He soon came face to face with lady Uldrahad once more and bowed again. "M'lady, you are too kind to grant a humble hunter such as myself an audience. I am in your debt."

"Humans have always been a humble ally of ours in the past." Uldrahad replied with a barely visible smile. "You're not famous, yet. At least not in our archives." she continued, "Usually the Fellrise send their champions to us in their time of need. So, sir Beowulf, this trade route you are mapping is merely an economic leash to reorder Avilion, is it not?" She went back to tending the trees, clipping unnecessary twigs with an oddly fashioned pair of daggers joined at the fulcrum.

"I do not know what ultimate motives the higher authorities may have for I was merely hired to create the route, nothing more. Of course trying to reorder Avilion does not sound good for the wild should remain as such rather than attempting to conquer it. I wish to accomplish my mission of course, but I would be perfectly happy to stay here in this city rather than return to Midgard, with your permission," Beowulf bowed again. He kept a smile the entire time, hoping to make a good impression upon the elven lady. Human nobility would not have granted him an audience, let alone seem to try and start a conversation.

"Calm." Uldrahad replied, "I'm not worried about the nation's intentions. It has been far too long that we have been secluded." She handed Beowulf one of her recently clipped twigs, "Our past defines out future. We were allies, and so we shall remain. If you wish to stay here, you must lose your self doubt and distrust." She clapsed the hunter's hand around the twig and smiled, "This one is yours. Take it with you to the king of Avilion as proof. You'll be needing paper to map the road, will you not? Unless you plan to remember it all."

"M'lady, you are too kind but I had intended on remembering it all myself for I am more of a creature of the woods myself. I shall guide the first group of traders here and help to create the road myself." Beowulf kissed the hand of the elven lady and bowed low once again. "I thank you greatly m'lady for this, and I fully intend to return and bask in the glory of this great city."

Uldrahad chuckled as her hand was kissed, and she withdrew it from Beowulf's grasp. "Yes, we usually just bow." she replied, amused at the human's forwardness, "One day you may become a great hunter, I shall remember your name. Do not disappoint me by leaving for the greater lands too soon." She placed her hand on Beowulf's shoulder and smiled, returning to her garden. Uldrahad did not seem like the typical city leader, as she tended to many of the duties that would otherwise have been reserved to her entish gardeners. Then again, the arboretum was under a renovation.

"Then I apologize for my forwardness, I was merely trying to show my gratitude. I shall not leave for greater lands too soon, I seek to stay here in the forest for a little longer. But, I must return to Midgard to establish the trade route m'lady. I shall return," and with that Beowulf left the Demesne quickly and returned to the Town Square of the Fantasma City of Hoddmimir.
