Call of the Covenant Chapter 5, I hope this isn't too...presumptuous...

Enne chuckled and shook her head, "I thought I was being a bit reassuring telling you that I wouldn't hurt you unless you betrayed me in some way..." She said, "Really now, have I given you reason to fear me besides the scythe?"

"Nope, but call me crazy but, I don't trust anyone, whether I fear them or not...Now, I'm hungry, you hungry?

"I'm always hungry." Enne said simply, "And no worries, I have a similar issue with trust... never can trust anyone but yourself out here these days..."

He shrugged, "Let's go find somewhere to eat. And on the way you can explain, who and what the hell are those things that attacked us?"

"I'll do my best... though I must say that I myself don't have too vast a knowledge on them..."

"Well let's check this thing's vast knowledge of nearby restaurants." He held up his mini computer. "And on the way, you can start with the fact that they weren't human, so what were they? Nothing I've seen before...except for that loser, how must have a thing for you by the way. Judging by the way he keeps throwing himself at you."

"To be honest... They are humans." Enne said, "They've got special abilities though, like myself."

"How'd you get them?"

"As far as I know, I was born with them... I never really got to ask my parents though- they died while I was still quite young." Enne replied.

"Ah.." Lyden resisted the impulse to say he was sorry, he had a feeling she would find it meaningless. Instead he sighed. "Let's go, I need to check something, I have a feeling we're in deep all of a sudden."

Enne shrugged, "Lead the way then my friend." She said.

Lyden followed the directions on his computer and lead her to an Italian restaurant a bit out of the way. "Sorry for the long trip, but I needed a place close to a cell tower, my long range signal amplifier was damaged and I haven't had the time to fix it."

"It's fine," Enne said dismissively, "Give me a moment to hide the scythe." She removed it from her back and set it gently on the ground, easing it into the shadows.

"Powerless phase shifting, if I could copy that and put it in a field amplifier then I could put it to good use." He muttered to himself.

"Hm?" Enne blinked and looked over at him before shrugging, "Seems that your special ability is most definately your mind." She said, "You really think it'd be that easy to copy a natural ability though?"

"Give me a little time with you and that scythe and the right measuring equipment and we'll see.." His voice trailed off. "I think I might have something that'll come in handy if we meet those guys again. If I can get my hand on the chip I need.."

"Oh?" She quirked an eyebrow curiously, "What's the method, and where's the chip?"

He grinned broadly. "All things in life are really just energy, even matter. I've been working on a device to scramble specific energy frequencies, your, and their, powers are nothing but a type of energy unknown to me. My device was originally intended to scramble all man made frequencies but I bet I could modify it to warp the energy field of your powers. Effectively shutting them off while you were in the field. Thanks to the fact that the margin between similar frequencies is so small, less than a billionth of a mega hertz in some cases, it would block their powers to maybe, basically it would put us on even footing. The problem is the same as what makes it possible, the similar frequencies, the wrong one could kill all living things with in the field, just as an example. There's a computer company here in Katar that has made a new chip that with a few modifications would be able to handle such a small margin making the device functional. I've been trying to steal it but I can't get into the lab on my own, alot of the security isn't computerized, a fail safe that makes it harder for me to get in." He took a deep breath, winded from his little speech.

Enne grinned mischieviously, "I'm sure I could get you in no problem. I don't generally have problems sneaking around security- live or mechanical. I just need to be able to visualize the area so that I don't screw up and end up somewhere I shouldn't..."

With lightning speed Lyden unfolded his special mini monitor and was showing her the most detailed schematics on any building ever seen. "This good enough?"

Enne scanned it with her eyes, memorizing the layout almost immediately. She nodded after a moment, "Which room is the chip located?" She asked softly.

"Right here." He pointed to a large circular room dead center of the facility. "Standard computer security like cameras and motion trackers are nothing, a problem is an impassable laser grid in the main room. That room is also in vacuum, and the stand with the prototype chip is wired with explosives. It's basically a, "If we can't have it no one can" last line of defense, and I have no idea what would trigger it.

"I see." Enne replied speculatively stroking her chin as she memorized every aspect of the room. She pointed to a small space in the corner of the room, "I think entry would be best just there. It's just below the camera, and we can easily disarm it there. Also, I feel that perhaps the grid is weakest there and there might be a large gap for us to move around with, not to mention that we wouldn't trigger anything coming up out of the shadows..."

"I forgot to mention the grid is in motion and the lasers are over 5000mW, they'd cut us in dozens of chucks before we could blink, I'm not sure which is more dangerous, going up against those guys with out an edge, or getting the edge...But you're right, that does look like a good entry point." He leaned closer to her as he studied the schematics for the hundredth time.

"Hmm... a moving grid. Definately sounds like a challenge." Enne said, grinning, "Seems quite exciting actually. I can't wait to get in there..."

Lyden gaped at her, "What, are you a masochist? Or worse, a sadist?"

She blinked at him, "Of course not... it's just the thrill of the challenge- doesn't it excite you to try at something as difficult as that?"

"I used to find excitement in hacking, but now I'm unbeatable." He smiled and thought, The girls you get involved with eh man?

She shrugged, "To each his own I suppose. But I still say it's an exciting prospect, a challenge that we could possibly fail at, though of course I highly doubt that failure will occur..."

He looked at her, "I have a feeling this is the first of many stupid things you're going to get me involved in, It was your idea dumbass but what the hell? Let's do it."

She found herself pouting again, "What makes you think that I'll get you involved in stupid things?" She asked, brushing a strand of her dark hair out of her eyes.

"Basic biology, you're a girl, I'm a guy, by the law of nature no matter what I'll end up doing something stupid, most likely to impress you, and I don't worry about admitting that because most likely, I'll be dead after the first stupid thing."

Enne released a soft chuckle, "You won't die, I can promise you that." She said, shaking off the light blush that had tainted her cheeks, "now then, how about some food?"

"Hmm? Food? Oh right right." He folded up his monitor and opened the door to the restaurant for her.

Enne grinned and nodded her head in thanks as she passed through the doorway. A man in an elegant suit approached her almost immediatly, "I'm sorry miss, but you can't come in here."

"And just why is that?" Enne asked, scowling at him as he looked her slightly disheveled figure over in a mixture of disgust and arousel.

She crossed her arms as he spoke, "We don't give out free meals."

Enne's arms fell to her sides and she clasped her hands into fists angrily, "Who said I came looking for free food." She said in a deathly soft tone.

Lyden quickly shoved three hundred dollars into the man's hand, "Trust me I'm doing you a favor, shut up and seat us." He whispered hurriedly.

The man looked him over and sighed, pocketing the money, "This way." He said, grabbing a couple of menus.

"He's lucky I didn't tear his head off." Enne growled softly to Lyden.

Lyden's stomach growled right along with Enne. "We all are, I hate the sight of blood before a meal, after fine, but never before. If you have to beat some sense into him after.."

Enne shrugged, "Maybe I will... he needs some sense knocked into him." She muttered as he set the menus down on the table.

"What can I get for you to drink?" He asked.

"I'll take some tea- hold the lemon and the ice." Enne replied simply, not caring to look his way.

"If you do get me my money back." To the waiter, "A double shot of whatever you have with the most caffeine, please."

"Of course." The man turned and stalked away with their orders.

"He doesn't deserve it anyway, the bastard..." Enne muttered.

"He's an ass, why are letting him get to you?"

"I hate rude people... If I was Hannible Lector he'd be in the fryer..." Enne replied simply, taking a deep breath and calming herself.

"Any thing I can do for you miss?" Lyden asked in his most polite voice.

She shook her head, laughing, "I don't find you rude, so there really is no reason to speak so very politely. To be honest it's a bit... odd."

"Odd's my middle name..no seriously, my mom said they made a typo on my birth certificate, it was supposed to be Todd but Odd it is." He lowered his head and looked at her over the top of his menu, hiding his smile.

"Interesting." Enne grinned, "Ah, methinks I'm gonna go for the lasagna... I have a love for it..." She said as the man came back with their drinks.

"Pasta, extra spice meatballs, triple garlic, thank you." He said to the man. When he left Lyden turned to Enne, "So..."

"Hm?" Enne gazed over at him as she took a refreshing gulp of her lemonless tea.

Lyden blushed, "Umm, nothing, never mind." He took a gulp of his scalding hot capachino to cover, then tried to act natural.

"What is it?" She pressed, setting down her glass, "Now you've got me curious..."

"Oh nothing, just thinking out loud..."

"I see..." She said simply, shrugging as she leaned back in her chair.

"Yeah,.." He muttered absentmindedly, staring at her, this time sipping his capachino.

Finally their meals arrived, and Enne immediately leaned forward in her chair again after the man bumped it and nearly sent her toppling over. She took a quick drink of her tea as he set their plates down. "Will there be anything else?" He asked boredly.

"Not at the moment thank you sir." Lyden politely responded. Then dismissed the man with a wave, he sulked off looking annoyed. Lyden went straight for the meatballs, still keeping one eye on Enne.

Enne dug hungrily into her lasagna, hardly taking notice of the hot noodles as she ate. Occasionally she set her fork down for a cool drink.

The first bite of pasta and Lyden forgot to watch Enne was invigorated to eat his pasta. As he was finishing, planning out the raid for the chip in his head he spotted a vampire watching them, he have a quick glance to see if Enne had spotted him as well.

Enne had stopped midbite when she'd sensed someone watching them, her gaze flowing over all in the room before stopping on the vampire. She narrowed her eyes at him.

The vampire didn't know he'd been spotted, he must have been stupid. He walked over to the rude waiter and whispered something in his ear.

Lyden sighed, then quickly ate his last meat ball. He looked at Enne, "I told you you'd be trouble..."

Enne shrugged, "If he starts anything we can handle it I'm sure." She said simply, "It would be best to continue eating so they don't suspect anything."

"He doesn't, he's just hungry. I've had alot of experience with vamps growing up, I know the signs." We should finish and leave, bet you he'll follow and we can lay a trap."

Enne nodded, "Works for me." She said, taking the forgotten bite of her lasagna.

"There's another one." He pointed with his eyes to a woman who had moved over and taken the first vampires arm. Lyden smiled, I'm gonna see what I can do," He got up, "I'll be right back honey." He said in a normal voice he knew the vampires would hear and winked at Enne. He headed off in the direction of the restrooms, sure enough, the first vampire broke off and followed. The girl move in on Enne.

Enne blinked in surprise before catching on, "Mmkay then." She said, continuing to nonchallantly devour the remainder of her lasagna.

"Care to step outside for a moment?" The vampire asked Enne.

Enne shrugged, "For what?"

"I just wanna have a little private chat." She said innocently.

Enne looked as though she were contemplating it before nodding. She finished the last of her tea and stood, "Fine, but I've got to make it quick. My friend'll be back soon, I don't want him to think that I've gone and left him."

"It won't take long, I promise." She grinned and led Enne outside.

Lyden entered the men's room. He crossed to the sink and set one of his cell phones next to it, he then pretended to wash his hands. The vampire entered the room, walking casually, confident. Lyden reached for his phone as the vampire crossed the room, he pressed a button and it started ringing. He tossed it to the vampire, "It's for you." The vampire caught it on reflex, one second later his body seized up and blue sparks flashes from his hand. Ever muscle in his body jerked and he fell to his knees then slumped on his face. With a laugh, Lyden stooped and retrieved his special 100,000 volt taser phone.

"So, what is it that you wanted to talk about?" Enne allowed the vampire to lead her into a dark alley.

"How about the taste of your blood?" She hissed.

"My blood? Nah, I figured it'd be more fun to spill yours." Enne replied, narrowing her eyes, "I've been pretty pissed tonight and need something to beat up..."

The vampire laughed, throwing her head back, "You think you can kill me? Foolish."

"We'll see." Enne said, leaping backwards as she lashed out with her claws, just barely scraping the tender flesh of Enne's throat.

Enne touched the thin trickle of blood that tickled down her throat and growled, running forward and lashing out with her fists. She caught the vampire a glancing blow to the shoulder, listening with satisfaction as the bone cracked and the arm fell uselessly.

"Bitch!" The vampire hissed, baring her fangs as she attacked Enne again, attempting to latch onto the other woman's throat.

Enne used her arms to block the blows, ignoring the shallow scratches that she recieved, "What are you talking about? You fight like those blonde bitches you pansy."

"What!?" She drew a knife and threw it at Enne, who in turn pulled her scythe up from the shadows and slapped it away with her blades.

The vampire's eyes widened in realization, "Death..." She muttered.

"Scared now, aren't you?" Enne laughed, her tone deadly.

"No, you're only human!" She ground out, pulling several more knives from her pockets and throwing them.

Enne felt one graze her ribs deeply and quickly pulled it out, "You've pissed me off now." She ground out, swinging the scythe.

The vampire screamed in sheer agony as Enne's scythe bit into her flesh, slicing deeply. She leapt back, blood oozing from her wounds, "I'll get you for this..." She ground out in pain, running forward recklessly, gnashing her teeth.

Enne sighed, "I'd rather you have run." She said coldly, swinging her scythe.

It met with the brief resistance of flesh before swinging into open air. She didn't even blink as blood spurted over her front, and instead flicked the blades of her scythe, watching as crimson fluttered to the ground with the vampire's severed body before turning and heading back towards the restaurant's entrance, slipping her scythe into the shadows as she moved.

When Lyden had found Enne's table empty he's dashed to the front door to see if she was out side, he spotted her walking towards him, stained with blood. He leaned casually against the wall and said, "Cat fight?"

Enne shrugged, "She put up a little resistance, but in the end... she got hers."

"Fine by me, but you might like this. The idiot who went for me, he's alive, I've got him out cold in a stall in the men's room. Think he might be worth something?"

"He might." Enne replied simply, "Care to bring him out?"

"I'm not dragging an unconscious vampire out the front door, get around back, I've got a plan." He turned and went back inside. Looking around he found another waiter, not the rude one who was no where to be found. Making himself look flustered and nervous he ran up and shoved five hundred dollars in the man's hand. "You gotta help me man, my wife's found me, I need a food dolly right now."

The man looked confused but quickly counted the money and shrugged. "What the hell do you need a dolly for?"
"I need to get my girlfriend out of her right now man." He looked around nervously for effect. "She's hiding in the rest room, hurry and I'll sneak her out the back."
"Why." Lyden cut him off, "If you help me now I can get out of here before I need someone to push me out in a dolly!"

The waiter finally agreed and lead Lyden quickly the kitchen and gave him a dolly with a table cloth over it. Lyden went back to the men's room, where he found the vampire sitting propped up on a toilet just like he'd left him. He quickly shoved him off his throne and dragged him to the cart. His prisoner gave a soft groan and Lyden kicked him hard in the head, "Don't wake up now man, I've got to do a stupid thing cause of the girl" He told him. "I'll explain later maybe." He muttered.

Lyden shoved the vampire under the cart and wheeled him out the rest room and out the back door to the dumpsters.

Enne sighed as Lyden disappeared back into the restaurant and shook her head, "I didn't mean bring him out the front door..." She muttered, allowing her feet to lead her around back where she waited for Lyden to reappear. She caught sight of him a moment later and made her way over to the dumpsters where he was wheeling a dolly.

Lyden dumped the vampire unceremoniously on the ally ground. He quickly shoved the dolly back into the restaurant and went to Enne's side.

"How long's he gonna be out?" Enne asked, kicking the vampire in the side, "Wake up you."

Lyden smiled, "I'm not sure how well kicking him is going to work...give it a minute..with his constitution it shouldn't talk too long..." The vampire groaned and shifted confirming Lyden's point.

"Ah, good." Enne said, taking several steps backwards, "I wonder what this vampire knows that could be of interest to us..."

"He might be able to tell us why there were atleast two vamps hunting in that restaurant." The vampire groaned and tried to sit up but wasn't able to move just yet, Lyden stepped back and loosened his gun in it's holster. "And maybe what that Covenant they mentioned was."

"Covenant?" Enne narrowed her eyes, "Well, he will definately have something of interest for us after all."

"You don't know who the Covenant are?!" Demanded the vampire, his voice thick from the shock. "You humans are stupid aren't you?" Lyden kicked him, "I outsmarted you so what does that say?"

"Actually, this covenant was asking me to join them." Enne spat, "Now don't try anything stupid or we're gonna have to start cutting things off..."

The vampire literately spat at her, and tried to move, managing a weak twitch. Lyden pulled out one of his long switch blades and swooped down and severed the vampires belt. "Do that again and I know where to start cutting."

"So, tell me- why were you hunting in that restaurant?" Enne said smoothly, outwardly unfazed by the vampire.

He growled at her, Lyden poked his groin with his blade. He twitched and said, "It's ours, it belongs to my mistress. Now kill me, before she can."

"Sorry, we won't kill you until you've revealed everything we want to know." Enne said, "Who is your mistress, and where does she live? What does she have to do with the covenant?"

"She is Nyx, and she serves the covenant as to all superior races. She will see you all die human, be prepared. Go, wait for death in her loft if you wish." He laughed an pointed. Then lept up and seized Lyden by the throat before he could react. Knocking his blade away.

"Let him go." Enne said in a deathly soft tone as she held out her hand and accepted the scythe that pushed itself up from the shadows. With one swipe she removed the hand that clutched Lyden's throat.

The vampire screamed but held onto Lyden with his remaining hand. Lyden flipped the other blade he'd had ready into his hand and open. He made good on his promise, jamming it deep into the vampires groin and yanking upwards. That made the vampire release him and he rolled out of the way.

"Well, you were warned. I think I'd rather just let you suffer. Maybe you can tell your mistress that it was a pair of humans who took you out so easily."

The vampire was slumped against the wall, bleeding badly, but healing. He snarled an bared his fangs, "Never!" He threw himself at her, bellowing in rage.

"What, am I supposed to be daunted by a castrated vampire?" Enne said, hitting him with her right fist.

The weakened vampire staggered back and Lyden, still on the ground, kicked his knee, breaking it from the side. He crumpled in a heap and moaned, the fight finally gone.

"Well, I told you." She muttered, turning to Lyden, "So, what do you say- care to visit that loft?"

"Yeah, maybe this Nyx will tell us what the hell is going on." He nodded at the vampire, "What about this thing?"

"Leave him- he's no danger to us anymore." Enne replied, slipping her scythe into its sheath and turning away from the vampire.

Lyden sighed his relief, he didn't want to have to see her kill again right now. He turned to follow her when the vampire made a noise and he turned back. The vampire was holding a pistol in his remaining hand. Before Lyden could react it shot him in the heart and he fell back without a sound.

"Lyden!" Enne gasped, rushing back over to his side before turning to the vampire, "I'm going to hack you into tiny pieces." She hissed.

The vampire emptied the clip at her as she came at him.

She dodged most of the bullets, ignoring the one that had pierced her leg and drew her scythe. She swung it four times- two in each direction- before sheathing it again and watching in mild satisfaction as blood spurted from the vampire's body and he collapsed into several pieces before she turned back towards Lyden.

Lyden lay pron, not moving. A very small blood stain on his shirt where his jacked had fallen away. Then without warning, he groaned.

"L-Lyden?" Enne gasped in surprise, making her way back over to him.

He coughed and tried to sit up, with a loud groan he fell back down. He looked at his chest, gave a weak laugh then said. "I'm ok.." He looked at his jacket and gasped, "No!" His head fell back and he gave a long painful sigh. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his mini computer, or rather, what was left of it. The little device had been built specially for durability, It had slowed the bullet and deflected it, at the cost of it's own life. Bits of it's casing had embedded in Lyden's chest. "If he's not dead I'm going to kill him..." He
muttered weakly.

"Don't you do that to me!" Enne gasped, sitting down near him, "I bet I just lost 10 years off of my life because of you..."

He laughed, then stopped suddenly because it hurt. The impact had bruised him bad. "Sorry..next time I'll try to stay down.." He glanced at her, "Oh shit! You're bleeding!" He sat up all the way this time.

"I am?" She said in surprise, glancing down at her leg, "Well I'll be damned... I guess he must've got off a lucky shot on me..."

Lyden rolled his eyes at her, he grabbed his bag and pulled out his simple first aid kit. He examined her leg. "You're lucky, it missed the bone, went clean through. He tied a dressing around the wound. "We need to get you to a hospital."

"A hospital? Why a place like that? It's not that bad..." She said simply, "It's only a leg wound..."

"Will you say that if it gets infected and falls off? Fine, but we need a place to clean it and dress it, I've got stitches, it should be shallow enough to stitch, but I don't have any anesthetic."

"I don't need anesthetics." Enne said simply.

"Why doesn't that surprise me?" He stood up, hiding his pain from her. "I'm betting that vampire isn't home, if she was she would probably know about this and come. We'll use her place."

Enne shrugged and stood as well, "That's fine by me."

Lyden looked at the mangled remains of his mini computer, "Good bye old friend." He tossed it into the dumpster, then pulled an identical copy of it out of his bag and placed it into his pocket. "Let's move."

"Okay..." Enne nodded, "Hey... how many of those things do you have out of avid curiosity?"

"On me? Three, er, two. You lead the way." He shouldered his bag on his good side.

"Look for a way to get to the roof... We'll be able to get into her loft easily enough from above rather than below." Enne said.

"What am I? Spiderman?" He muttered, then pointed to the fire escape, "That'll do it."

Enne nodded, "Indeed..." She murmured, leaping onto the lower rungs of the firescape and quickly hoisting herself up.

She just got shot and it didn't even slow her down... He though, then realized I've just been shot too...why the hell am I staying with her? Out loud he said, "Give me your hand."

Enne nodded stiffly and reached her hand out to him.

He took her hand and helped himself up, "Ya know, when I said stupid thing, I sorta was hoping I was joking..."

"Hm?" She wondered allowed, pulling herself onto the roof and then turning to hoist him up as well.

"Forget it." He said smiling, he turned and started climbing the ladder to the roof.

"Hmm..." Enne looked around for an entrance into the loft.

"Skylight." Said Lyden, pointing. He moved over and investigated, "No opening. Do we open it stealthily, or should I just get a brick?"

"Perhaps a stealthy entrance would be best." Enne said, "Though if it's too much of a hassle we can just break it."

"Oh what the hell?" Lyden smashed the window with a nearby brick then drew his handgun and dropped in after it." He landed smoothly, which surprised him, and scanned the room, his gun pointed where his eyes went.

Enne landed silently beside him, "See anybody?" She asked, glancing around for any signs of danger.

"Nope," he shouldered his weapon. They were in a large bedroom, a giant four poster bed sat against the wall in the center of the room, red and black silk draped all over it. Lyden crossed and lay down on it, "God I could use a nap.."

"Not used to such excitement?" Enne asked with a laugh, crossing the room and sitting on the edge of the bed next to him.

He stretched, "Far from it," He moved to the farther side of the bed, "You should lay down and rest, I'm gonna need to buy a bed like this."

Enne shrugged and leaned back, resting her head on her folded arms, "It is quite comfortable..." She said.

Lyden responded with a soft snore, he was fast asleep already.

Enne looked over at him in silent amusement, "He really wasn't kidding about being tired..." She said with a soft laugh.

Lyden grunted in his sleep and rolled over with an arm around her.

She blinked in surprise as he draped his arm over her. She turned her head slowly and gazed at his sleeping form.

Lyden was sleeping soundly, he dreamed he was at the unveiling of UNIX his arm around a beautiful woman. He smiled in his sleep.

Her gaze softened slightly. He must be having a good dream... She thought, releasing a small laugh out loud.

Her laugh woke him up slightly, he opened his eyes. He briefly stared at Enne, not really seeing her. Then his eyes closed and he was asleep again.

When she realized that she'd laughed aloud, Enne pressed a hand to her lips. She was growing slightly drowsy as she lay there.

Lyden slept on, he muttered the word "Trapdoor."

"Trapdoor?" She muttered, "What's he dreaming about anyway?" She yawned.

Lyden rolled back the other way, still muttering, "Gillette you idiot..."

She sat up and laughed, "Rest well..." She said softly.

The motion of her sitting up set of his highly sensitive nerves, he yelped jumped off the other side of the bed.

"Are you okay?" Enne peered over the side of the bed, mirth dancing in her eyes.

He lay on the floor dazed, blinking up at her he said, "Good lord girl you make me nervous."

"Sorry..." Enne murmured, "I really didn't mean to startle you..."

"Startle me? Nonsense, that's how I always wake up.." He pulled hard on the bed covers to try and pull them out from under her and onto him so he could continue to sleep. He accidentally pulled her along.

Enne put her hands out, startled, to catch herself, and ended up in a relatively awkward position over him.

Lyden laughed, awake now, "I'm not complaining, but don't you think this is a little sudden after just two meals together?"

"Hey, you're the one that pulled me down here..." Enne said softly.

He smiled at her, "Yeah, guess something had to go right today.."

Enne gave a light laugh, "Oh really?" She said.

"I've been beaten, knocked out, and shot in the heart almost, this isn't the worst thing that has happened today.." He smiled.

"It's a good thing that there really are no lasting affects with those..." Enne said, smiling back.

"Yeah lucky me..." He yawned "You gonna do something?"

"O-oh..." She remembered the position she was in and struggled up, slightly flushed, "Sorry..."

He laughed, "Don't worry about it, told you I wasn't complaining.." He smiled at her reaction.

"I know what you said..." She muttered.

Lyden sat up, then stood up. "How could someone who's enemies call death, be so shy?"

"That's two different things." Enne replied simply, sitting on the bed once more.

"I suppose so." He debated trying to sleep on the bed again but decided he didn't want to come off the wrong way. "I wonder if this bloodsucker has any food.."

"I doubt there'll be more than stores of blood. If she wanted anything else she'd go downstairs..." Enne responded.

"Hmm..good point." He shrugged and jumped back onto the bed, wrong impressions be damned. Right... said the voice in his head.

"You saying that you're still hungry?" Enne glanced over at him.

"Umm.." He blushed Great cover Mr. Genius. He actually laughed at himself.

She blinked at him in surprise, "Why are you laughing?"

He turned a brighter red, "Umm..no reason...Good night." He spun away from her and pretended to be asleep again.

She shook her head and stood up, stretching tired muscles.

Lyden lay there having an argument with himeself Yes, No, yes, no yesnoyesnoyesno.

Enne sat down in a nearby chair and gazed up at the nighttime sky.

Fuck it. Lyden stood up and started searching the loft, "I need a computer..."

She looked over at him, "Good luck finding one in here..." She said.

"Fine, I've got one, I need a phone line." He pulled a chair away from the wall and found one. "AH HA!"

Enne laughed, "You amuse me sometimes, Lyden." She said softly.

"That's something I guess..." He muttered.

"I wasn't saying it in a bad way... It's a good thing to have an air of humor about you..."

"Air of humor right..." He sat on the floor and plugged his laptop in. He sighed.

"You're really hard to please, you know that?" Enne muttered from her seat.

He smiled, "I'm not hard to please, I'm just tired and shy."

"Shy?" She laughed, "How can one be so intelligent- hacking into all kinds of things, and still be shy?"

"Ohh, using my own weapons against me, nice." He shrugged. "I deal with machines, not people...."

"Okay, okay... I'm sorry. What say we search this place and then head out?" Enne said.

Lyden cast a look of longing at the bed, yawned, and unplugged his computer again. "Right."

Nyx landed lightly and waited for Marcus to lead the way.

Marcus led the way along a tree shrouded path, after about a quarter mile he saw something. "Shit." It was a body, not a human body, the body of a winged demon, it bore the burns of anti aircraft fire from his informant.

"What or Who the Fuck was that?" Nyx looked down at the chared remains.

"Don't know who, what is a low level assassin demon. This isn't a coincidence, they must have found my informant." He stood up, "They would have sent more, lets hurry." He took off running, reaching the abandoned radio station, the front door was in splinters. It was metal, and still splinters, not a good sign.

Nyx smirked.. "Hope you've had your tetness shots."

Marcus stepped through the hole in the wall. He ran around the building, looking, finally stopped in the broadcast room. He sighed. His informant lay dead on the floor, in several peices.

"That looked like it was fun to do...." Nyx looked around.

Marcus shot her a look, "He wasn't half bad to know, for a human.." He got up and looked around for a large blue book, spotting it on a shelf. He smiled, opening it he pulled out a PDA.

"What's that?"

"When I gained his trust, I convinced him he was working to save humanity. He told me that if ever anything happened to him he'd contact me with this method." He typed in a password and the PDA beeped. Marcus scrolled through the files looking.

Nyx silently slid behind him.As she pressed herself against him looking over his shoulder she said. "What ya looking for?"

"This." He held up the PDA so Nyx could see the small screen. A video was playing, it was of the informant in this very room, he looked very flustered. There was a banging sound and he looked at the door frightened. He looked at the camera, "Agent Richardson, listen I don't have much time, they've found me, I'm dead." His lip trembled. "I found out what they're doing, no time to rise the alarm, you have to stop them." The banging sound was closer now. "They have a machine, at the power plant, it'll kill us all, every human."

"Sounds like fun...."

"There's more." The video continued to play. "It'll kill us all, everyone, on the planet. I don't have time to explain how, the file are on the PDA, it attack human DNA, kills it, and anything with human DNA. Us, and any of their servants, fuck these bastards are evi..." There was the loudest bang of all, the informant said. "Shit!" And threw the PDA in the book, it was still recording. It recorded his screams, it shut off automatically after there was silence for thirty seconds. Marcus looked at Nyx and felt a sickening chill.

Nyx had a sly smirk on her lips. "Darling...do you have human DNA?"

He looked at her a long time before answering, "No....but you do..."

"Heh, are you so sure?"

"You're a vampire, you were once human, you still have the DNA, more than enough to kill you...no doubt..."

"Nope."

"Nyx, would I tell you you did if you didn't?

"You would if you didn't know my chemical makeup."

"Well explain it to me." As Marcus asked his thoughts were on his sister, Beth. Half sister, mother was a werewolf..her daughter, Michal, even James...And so many others he'd fought with, all dead soon.."

"My mother was one of the meanest bitches you'd ever meet. She was a deamon. She kinda raped my dad, who is a human, and made me. I died in a battle, but a Vampire found me and sired me, so that I could be his little sex slave..." Nyx shrugged "It happens."

Marcus snapped out of his thoughts. "Let me guess, he's dead now isn't he?" He smiled at her.

"Well, I was bourn in 1482. It happens...But she didn't kill him, she actually coveted him. She loved him..."

"I was talking about the vampire that thought he could enslave you..."

"Oh him, yes, I decapitated him with his own whine glass....After I'd removed his member."

Marcus laughed, "That is so you.." He blinked, suddenly worried about his own member. Note to self, don't piss her off, I don't care if it grows back.

"Don't worry babe, I'm not gonna castrate you. I'm hungry..."

"Two sentences that should never be uttered in the same breath..Fine, lets eat." He pocketed the PDA and walked out of the building.

"I want something younge, blond, and female.....know where I can get one of those?"

"Los Angeles?" He sighed, "Lets go, we'll fly around till we find one, hopefully two, that sounds like fun." He tossed a ball of fire into the building and the walls shook and the one remaining window exploded. He lept into the air and soared on the updraft from the fire.

"Um...No, follow me." Nyx flew a while and landed in a quiet suburban park.

Marcus landed softly beside her, "This is your show babe, so show me."
Nyx looked around and found exactly what she needed. A young couple were making out against a tree. Nyx smirked at Marcus. She put on the innocent lookand walked around the shrub that they had landed behind. "Um..excuse me, I'm sorry for interrupting you, but I've lost my keys and I need some one to help me find them, I think they're under this shrub, but I can't get down there." The boy took one looke at nyx and wa infatuated. 'I'll help you ma'am. I'll be back babe." he kissed the blonde and followed Nyx around the shrub. She quicklt desposed of him. Casting a glance at Marcus, she casually walked back around the shrub. The blond looked up. "Where's Robbie?" Nyx smiled her enchanting smile. "He was a dear and went to get my car. I have this terrible fear of being mugged." The blond smiled and nodded.
Nyx began to lay on teh charm, and in a matter of minutes she began making oout with the girl, minutes Nyx was drinking her fill, with the blond slumped in her arms.

Marcus leaned against a tree watching with an evil smile on his face.

Nyx walked over to Marcus. "Sorry babe, it wasn't that intertaining... Can you do better?"

"A nun on PMS could do better than that..." He looked over at a passing car, four teens where out having a good time. He smiled and reached into the drivers mind. The car swerved straight at him, the driver floored it. Marcus stood right infront of the car. It reached him and he jumped up. His body turned to solid shadows and passed through the windsheld. The shadows wraped around the passangers for a second then Marcuse passed through the rear window and recorporalized. He grinned at Nyx while the car with it's now soulless occupents slowed and stopped in the grass.

"Idiot. I'm going home. I'll not play your little games, it kills innocents, I only feed when I need to. Good night love."

Marcus blinked, he ran after her. "What the hell are you on? Fine." He threw the souls back into their bodies Lucky I had time. "Now what?"

"You can't handle what I'm on. Get over it." She shrugged him off and began moving to a strategic point of the under ground. "Maybe I'll go get laid....hummm Something with a little heat." Nyx thought out loud.

Marcus' eyes flashed black, a small spark popped beside his hand. He jumped in front of her and grabbed her arm, "Don't talk to me like that. Ever."

Nyx smiled 'What are you gonna do? Hurt me?" Her gaze was intense, she looked right into his eyes. Still grinning.

"I should hurt you, you cost me my dinner. You're going to make up for it." He bite her neck hard and drank from an artery.
She moaned and leaned into him. Her hands doing as they pleased.
