2010-02-09 [Artsieladie]: Shared on FB. "I agree! Loving an animal is rewarding in so many ways, but it seems loving a hu"man" is self destructive... or at least for me it has been this way!"
I've never had "an" animal try to control me or be possessive and they're never judgmental, always forgiving and understanding! They don't pretend to be something they are not nor do they pretend 'not' to care about you, when in fact they do. ...And they don't hold anything against me because I happen to be American, either.
2010-02-09 [Sunrose]: I don't get the whole thumbs text >_>
2010-02-09 [Mortified Penguin]: Maybe you just haven't been around the right animals. I have dogs that fight for attention and are highly jealous. They're very possessive of me and if they see me pet another dog, they'll attack it. They never forgive either. If you hurt one, or if it thinks you hurt it, it'll avoid you and run away when you come near...
2010-02-09 [Sunrose]: Heh my two cats are the same. One will get attack the other if she gets too much attention and both will attack strange cats if I try to pet those.
One of my cats has probably been beaten as a kitten, because she is afraid of my hands if I move too fast to pet her. My sister force-cuddled her once and now she usually disappears when my sister shows up.
The other one will completely ignore you if she doesn't feel like listening, she won't respond to any name or sound at all.
2010-02-09 [Fearathress]: Like the old cat woman; that’s what this picture reminds me of. Animals unlike a human show and understand us. I personally feel more connected to animals, especially horses. Very nice picture and great meanings. :)
2010-02-09 [Artsieladie]: hehe I just wrote a whole lot and then nixed it, put it somewhere else. Being a person that has taken in and cared for probably 1000's of animals all totalled, I couldn't resist, but I haven't ever had any problem with possessiveness of 'myself' from an animal. Protectiveness I've had to deal with and carefully though. :P
Me, too. I feel a very strong connection with animals and horses especially as well. I love the 'spirit' of the horse and often equate my own to be like that of the horse, especially that of a wild horse. lol
Love me, respect me not hobbled or noosed.
I'll love in return without boundary induced.
Capture, control, confine, I'll yearn
To break free and to never return! -By me. ;)
2010-02-10 [sequeena_rae]: Love is a cat that sleeps in your top and a dog that covers you in drool :)
2010-02-10 [Fearathress]: Beautiful poem! It rings very true.
2010-02-10 [Sunrose]: In my case one cat was there before the other and didn't have to share anything before, so it makes sense why she's irritated about the other cat now. As the vet explained to me: "how would you feel if an unwanted intruder used your bathroom, slept in your bed and ate your food etc?"
It's probably different if your animals are already used to sharing and you would add one more to the bunch. Newcomers often accept the situation as they find it, usually a submissive role towards the animals that marked their territory before the newbie got there.
My cats are too big to sleep in my top and omfg gross drool =p
Cats can drool too though, my sister has one that does that :D
2010-02-10 [sequeena_rae]: lol oh noes drool!! It's all slimy and white and when she shakes you better duck!
lol my mum's old cat was the same. My sisters does it too but he often has a runny nose - especially round dinner time o.O
2010-02-10 [Artsieladie]: It's interesting that drool gets mentioned, because I always got a kick out of the line in Homeward Bound with the cat, Sassy saying: "Cats rule and dogs drool." ..and most definitely much, much more "ewwww" around the dinner table. :P
Thank you, [Fearathress]. :)
2010-02-10 [Sunrose]: Heh funny quote indeed :)
Luckily cats usually don't shake their heads and get their drool spread all over the place, it just kind of runs down their mouths =P
Especially if you have something yummy at the dinner table x)
2010-02-11 [Artsieladie]: Right. Cats are usually very neat about it, whereas dogs aren't.
Yeeeaaah and doggie drool can spoil an appetite rather quickly no matter how yummy the food is and with one good head shake? Instantaneousl
2010-02-11 [sequeena_rae]: LOL clearly neither of you have owned a mastiff breed or any breed that drools.... because they're not that bad :P Don't wave a pork chop in their face though you're just asking for trouble.
2010-02-11 [Sunrose]: Sorry I don´t need extra foam on my food =P
2010-02-11 [sequeena_rae]: Don't see how there would be :P
2010-02-11 [Artsieladie]: I have cared for Mastiffs, a Neapolitan Mastiff, St. Bernards, St. Bernard mixes, Newfies, and Great Pyrenees quite a lot. But although more commonly associated with the large breeds, drooling isn't necessarily with these only. I've also cared for Boxers, Bulldogs, Bassetts, and Shar-peis. Any dog that has an extra amount of skin associated with the lower jaw and lip area, is a prime candidate for drooling, because the drool escapes from there, instead of being contained inside the mouth as is the norm.
One dog in particular was a huge dog named Angus, a cross between a German Shepherd and a St. Bernard. I can't tell you how many times I had to wash down walls, floors, kitchen appliances, etc., etc., because he was drooling and shook his head. ..And the taller the dog, the longer the specimen of drool can be! (.)..(.)
2010-02-11 [sequeena_rae]: Anything with a large jowl drools but it's really not as bad as it seems. I think only a handful of times has Luna really gone for it whilst drooling - she just has a problem with keeping water in her mouth lol.
Sky my shepherd drools too - she's a weird one.
2010-02-11 [Artsieladie]: Oh yeah, some Shepherds do drool, too. But even if you wind up with a dog that drools, if you love the dog, you just learn to accept the fact the dog drools and you live with it. I still hug them. I just wipe their mouths off before I do. lol
2010-02-11 [sequeena_rae]: I don't mind drool :P living with 3 dogs and being out on the mountain everyday means I've had worse on me :O
