What's really fun about it, is that it's a show that shows that you don't have to steal money from your viewers to make interesting "TV". But you can bet that the blood-suckers in Hollywood will shout and scream when we're file-sharing this free content and pretend that it's their crap we're downloading. And they will force the politicians they bought to put a fee on Internet too feed their greed.

Damn, now I got so angry that I will not buy a movie again. Like I do something else...

If you speak Swedish, I would strongly recommend http://adventsmysteriet.se/

It's a little slow in the beginning, but now it's taking off.

If you don't speak Swedish the story is pretty much lost, but the general export, the drink-mixing Björn Wedell is just as fun as the Swedish muppet chief, but he's actually speaking Swedish. Word to know is "tumregel" = "rule of thumb". "gott" = "tasty". "jättegott" = "very tasty". That's about it...

*sigh*

I've just realized how useless Elftown is in one way. It's almost impossible to find anyone you know from somewhere else here. The reason is of course that people don't write their name or anything else that you can search for.

I just fixed so that you can type a real name (Like "Henrik Wallin") in the Enter username box to the right. But it works with extremely few people as most people seem to want to be nameless piles of meat, instead of actual persons with real names.

I have to do something about this if I'm serious about making Elftown a part of people's lives. I'm not going to force people to give out their names, but they must be made to realize the benefits of this. It's also a known fact that people who give out their real names behave much better than the ones who don't.

It's freezing cold here :(

I've been revamping the wiki-edit forms a little. In the future it will be easier to correct things if you accidentally press that infamous <img:knapp/exporttransformhtml.gif> button.

I also added some extra previous-next-buttons so that reverting bad changes will be more obvious to new members.

A follow up to the http://randomfoo.net/oscon/2002/lessig/free.html post:

I'm having a look at http://www.free-culture.cc/freecontent/ and is trying to see what I can do against the fact that fat cats are stealing our culture from us, trying to spy on our communication and generally make sure that no artist is free and all communication is censored through copyright laws.

I'm all for that creators should be rewarded, but I can stand a world where they have to find other ways to get income than forbidding copying of culture, but I will never accept a world where authorities are digging in my personal information and communications to punish people who spread culture or useful information for free.

So you want to get drunk for free?

Well, try to understand what this theory about everything is and what the hell that E8 is:

(That's heavy and strange math. If you haven't read it, you will probably not understand a shit.)

I had some strange problems with the MySQL database engine so I could get it to cache enough, but it seems to be solved now.

Elftown will hopefully be much faster now, but it will take some day or even days before it's really up to full speed.

The general problem that Elftown isn't responsive is not solved though.

By the way: Some stuff/-files are still being copied.

Image status

About 25% of the images (25% of the image size, not image numbers) are copied now. It will go much faster with the big images on stuff/ though, so maybe 20 hours more or so.

Everything about the new hardware for [Elftron] seems solved now. I finally managed to upgrade the BIOS and now the processor runs fine at full speed. Everything is installed, except for the files I have to copy when I take Elftown down tomorrow morning.

I doubt that the processor fan will fit inside the case unless I rebuild it, but I'll solve it somehow. Remind me to check the size of the fan next time I buy one...

A little speech about that Copyright is oppression:

By the way: The building of [Elftron] is going fine, but there are a few unsolved problems, but nothing that will stop me from upgrading Elftow on Monday.

Gaaaaaah!

I finally managed to make the computer (that will be Elftown's new [Elftron]) start up, and now I'm installing the operating system on it.

It took me many hours to figure out why it didn't start up though, but the reason it didn't is way too stupid to let me tall you about it... <img:stuff/sutN.gif> Well, I have photos and stuff and might reveal it later.

I hate computers!

Grrr... How can things always not work? I think it's because there just isn't enough power for that monster processor of 115 watt (and if I read correctly, that is about the max the power supply can output), but I have no way to know if it's that until I've found a bigger power supply. It might also be that the BIOS needs an upgrade and then I'm in trouble unless I can manage to borrow an older processor.

Prepare for some down-time next week!

I've just ordered new hardware for Elftown, and I'll rebuild [Elftron] during next week. It will take a day or so because I have to copy all the image-files to a new harddisk and that takes ages. I'll try to run Elftown with broken images though, so that you at least can access the texts, upload new stuff and see the images already copied during the copying.

The urgent reason to upgrade is that we're running out of space on the harddisk. The second reason is that new modern hardware (motherboard) is needed for more memory and PCIe-cards. Now we'll get 8 GByte of RAM, SATA-disks and an Athlon 64 X2 6400+. It will not solve Elftown's problems with that it's hanging now and then, but it will make the problems at least 50% smaller, I think.

As a side-note I can say that this is almost the same hardware as www.elfwood.com is running. A faster processor and different brand, but the same, memory.

Invite!

I just had a little depressing moments when rejecting even more applications from people who simply don't give a shit about that their presentation is totally unreadable.

More than half of the applications we get (and reject) are from people like that. What irritates me the most is that they on purpose write badly "to look cool" or something. It's one thing to be a moron, but trying hard to be one to irritate people, that's just a plea for a hand in their face.

So please tell some nice people who aren't made to be a waste of space to join Elftown! There must be plenty of them even if I've seen over 20 year old writers with English as their native language who writes worse than a masturbating 13-old who learnt English from movies like Lesbian Spank Inferno.

My first client meeting!

It went pretty well. Kenth explained their plans for the organization, what systems they are planning to build and we discussed a little loosely about what is demanded to build the systems. It's a test-server and an ad server that is in the pipeline.

Hopefully I'll get some valuable knowledges and ideas for my sites too.

Some photos on Community Greenhouse Meeting.

Oh, and a fun thing about it:

Fusion will realize it with Linux drivers. 3 months later the Windows-drivers are supposed to be available. Take that, closed source mafia! <img:stuff/mood33-gif.gif>

And now [Elftron] knows what to wish for as a Christmas-present

Fusion has demonstrated a solid state drive/drive-controller:
http://www.tgdaily.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34065

At first, hopefully already in December, only 80 GByte, but Elftown's databases are right now 51 GByte so that's enough for 2008, I think (and some databases can be stored on a normal disk).

It will cost about $30 per GByte, which might seem cheap, but as the alternative is RAM, which costs $150 per GByte and there is simply no way to get 80 GBytes of RAM in a single server.

$2400 might seem a lot, but it's nothing compared to a serverfarm.

The thing this would mean for Elftown is that there would be no more "hangs" when Elftown is searching through someone's old messages. And it would of course be able to serve many more people.

Blärgh

Much worse now. And yesterday I suddenly got a headache from hell. <img:stuff/ice-gif.gif>

It's getting better when I rest and sleep though. But it's not helping that Lilo is horny and noisy.

Sick

I'm a little sick now, and will take it a little easy. It's really nothing bad, so hopefully the sickness will just forget about me tomorrow. But combined with Monday, it's pretty bad... <img:stuff/mood9-gif.gif>
