I'm fighting with a lot of programming. Of the quite exhausting kind. Not the hard and fun part, but not the boring kind either. But I really don't like stuff that is hard to test.

Well, a test just succeeded now with "Cannot cast mapping to int.", but the stuff has gone through 5 functions that I don't know if they work.

Oh, well. Time to stop whining and get back into the salt mine.

*sigh* Just when I got started really well with the programming, my nose started to bleed and now I don't have enough blood in my brain to think.

OK, I'll go and eat some blodpudding instead then.

That is overusing logic on natural language.

Having "both sexes" as sexual preference means that you prefer sex with both sexes of your own species over sex with your own right or left hand. Selecting that you have sexual preference "none" would then mean that you prefer to not have sex with anyone. This is how the language is defined through usage, so this logic is just an after construction.

It's different to say "I have no sexual preference" and that may basically can mean that you don't mind doing it in any possible way, depending on context.

As it pisses off the record companies.

Here is a newly found Micheal Jackson song: (Or at least a part of it)

This was a little too long for a wiki-comment, but I better put it here too, when I spent so much time writing it... This is explaining why Elftown will happily accept photos of products and logos on EPRM and reference pictures. The reasons are that it's good for freedom of speech, art, creation, progress, distribution of wealth, the Elftowners and it also saves us the problem to uphold a fundamentalist view of the copyright laws.

Monopolies on copying ideas is the end of progress. All artists and engineers make things that build on things before them. Unlimited copyright monopolies would mean that all artists on Elftown become slaves of the heirs of monopolies and it kills freedom of speech. I and therefore the rules of Elftown is totally against that.

And spreading a photo of something is definitely not even remotely the same as copying the thing in question while lying about what it actually is. If McD doesn't want their logo to be photographed (highly unlikely, but not impossible as lawyers don't miss an opportunity to both steal money from their clients and ruin their business.) they can stuff it where the sun never shines.

If anyone wants to go on a crusade to strangle free flow of information, then you can be totally sure to not get any support from there. I know that the Elftowners will benefit from getting their work spread and name known, and the extremely few artists (hardly Elftowners) that makes enough money only from selling copies have enough money anyway.

To put it in perspective: In Sweden there are 300 authors who can live on writing. 18% of their income come from royalties, and the rest from speeches, sponsors and other things. Of course all these would have benefited more from giving away 50% more books than getting royalties for selling fewer books.

For independent artists the threat from mega-corporations that want to steal their work is very real (Hey, that elf is similar to the one in "our story"! Now give us all your money!) and Elftown is of course on the side of the independent artists.

I'm heading back to Linköping tomorrow morning.

I've been fighting with damn computers today, and basically nothing has worked as it should. Mother has a program that should enable her to access PRO's membership database, but it's a total pain to install and demands Office, Internet Explorer and 4711 steps to install. PRO is the organization for the Swedish retired people, so I guess they assume that they are very comfortable with computers and doing all sort of work-arounds, I guess...

I knew it! Not so hard to see here on Elftown... And you just have to love this quote:

So, never ask a women her age. Or how much time she spends defeating the dark elves to rebuild the world of Norrath.

Ataque de Pánico! (Panic Attack!) 2009

"A producer from Uruguay who made a short science fiction
film and uploaded it to YouTube has landed [1]a film deal with Sam
Raimi's Ghost House worth $300 million. The [2]film, which shows
spaceships and giant robots attacking Montevideo, the capital of
Uruguay, was made by Fede Alvarez for around $300. "I uploaded (Panic
Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of
e-mails from Hollywood studios," he said. Alvarez is to [3]develop and
direct a film based on one of his ideas, but there is no word yet on
the writer."

The movie's special effects are just as great as if they were made for a high budget Hollywood production. Truly amazing. The story just isn't there though (It's in the class of the story in Independence Day, that is: Not existing.), but what can you expect from a 5 minutes long movie? The point is the great effects and they really fill up these 5 minutes.

That is the best fantasy novel I've read this year! I love how a seemingly normal accidental virus-forwarding is manifesting itself into a big conspiracy that is out to get the Lady of Light and All That's Good.

Apparently this fantasy heroine can also see through the soul of rulers like [Hedda], like no one else can. And the myth about the Debby's and Hedda's relationship, is giving that nice feeling of really being there in the land of fantasy, where one could at first think that they would have real magic to tell stories about, but they still create other stories that are even more fantastic than even the fantasy world is.

Unfortunately the storyline just doesn't make sense, but which fantasy writer care about such details? Gandalf could just have taken the ring and teleport himself to mount Doom and then drop it there, for example.

So: Great job! Keep this up and soon everyone will have forgotten about Tolkien and the other B-authors in the fantasy genre.

Update: Writersco

As you read before, the site Writersco moved away from the Heddate-platform (the same as Elftown is on) to another platform that would be much "easier for people to use and generally better bla bla".

So the leadership of Writersco moved to the new site www.writersco.com and I had to move the old site to http://writersco.heddate.com/ (Where you can still find the old writings and even continue to use the site).

As you can expect everything become great at the new site where everything is so simple and good and great, and people just flocked to the new site... I mean, look at these numbers:
The wiki isn't updated since September or so.
The chat on the main page gets a new comment every week on average.
All the news are since September or earlier.
There are featured members and writings of in total 0 ones.
The writings people have submitted to the site isn't readable by non-members, so I have no idea how recent they are. I don't get why people would bother to "publish" writings for so few members though, but I guess it could be useful for work that you do together with a few others.

I guess that this means that all the problems with using my sites are due to the Heddate system that apparently isn't as inviting as this new system that people are just flooding with activity.

http://writersco.heddate.com/superwikiwritings.html has 13 new writings this month despite that the site is missing leadership, by the way.

Enough of gloating now <img:stuff/sutN.gif>

I should go back to implementing the new stuff for Elftown, but it helps to feel a little good about myself first.

It's impressive how Elftown can be so different from a year ago. One year ago people said the exact same thing, and the 5 years before that too! People could realize that it's them who changed (to the worse) and that they can actually do something about it, if they want.

Ha, I'll place this in my diary too (so that you can't delete it...)!
