THE WILD HUNT
When the moon is full
On a starless night
A lone Sidhe puts his lips to the horn
And he begins to blow
The music echoes through the fog
Each Sidhe picks up the song
The grey horses lift their ears
Answer the call, then begins to run across the bog
They ride in the wild hunt
Strange wild and free
The mist roils as they fly
Everyone douth flee
They ride through the forest dark
The ground is hard
They kill on a lark
Full of the battle lust
A fire burns inside their hearts
Driving others to pain
They destroy, they hurt
For nothing to gain
When the moon is full
On a starless night
A lone Sidhe puts his lips to the horn
And he begins to blow
--Elizabeth Chamberlain- The Sidhe
The Wild Hunt is one of the reasons that humans fear the Fey, for it is one of the most merciless and cruel customs of the Unseelie Court. On certain dark nights they ride out on their steeds, weapons in hand, and they hunt. They hunt humans, in the same way that some humans hunt foxes. The Wild Hunt isn't merely about murdering, it is about fear, panic and torture of lowly mortals. Needless to say, their Seelie cousins find this practice to be overly vulgar and trite.
The mortals are chased over long distances, until they are exhausted and filled with mortal terror. Then a Sidhe will close in on him and kill him without hesitation, whereupon his body will be dragged back to Faƫrie to be cooked and eaten. His skin is sometimes used to make clothes and furniture, while sometimes the more impressive specimens are stuffed and used as decorations on the walls.
