You walk up to the villager, he doesn't seem to notice you, or appear to be a threat. The stick points straight up to the sky, but the way the man holds it doesn't give the impression as though it was pointing at anything specificly.
Still the man hasn't acknoledged you, so you ask;

  "Hey, old git, what'ya up to?"
 ["I am unblocking the path, so that everyone can get through"]

he smiles for a second, in the same direction he was looking, then returns to the same state as he was before.

  "will it be unblocked anytime soon?"
 ["oh yess.. I should have it done before the end of the day,"]

  ...

  "ok, laters"

the man doesn't acknoledge you...
