Twelve years it had been since she had last seen London. Twelve since she had last seen her best friend her father had forbid her to see. She stood in front of the door to 221B Baker street. Should she ring it? Should she walk away? He would never recognize her considering the last he saw her she was a little boy named Yuki. Deciding that she was determined to see him again she rang the door bell and waited.
No one answered, however a voice said "Can I help you?" from behind her. He had a coffee in one hand, a small bag from a store in the other, the bag containing just a few groceries; but most importantly; a brand new pack of cigarettes. It was springtime, so Sherlock hadn't bothered much with a jacket. There was no point in it. He was wearing his crisp purple top and his usual black slacks.
"Sherlock?" She asked looking the man up and down for a moment. Twelve years was a long time for anyone. People change especially when it came to appearances. "Is that you?" She wasn't sure but he looked so much like his mother that she could have sworn it was him. Out of the two brothers Mycrof had taken after their father, ugly and balding but at least he wasn't fat. Where as sherlock looked like their mother, slim very sleek and majestic. "It's good to see you again. Twelve years is too long."
"Of course it's me. No one else here at 221B that someone would spontaneously come looking for." Sherlock said in his bored tone, and he would've mentioned she was boring him, hadn't she started spouting off the other words. He started at her long and hard. "... Do I know you...?"
She smiled, she could tell by the look and the tone he didn't recognize her. "Think Sherlock I know you do. Twelve years to the day a small little Asian boy. Your best friend, your only friend was force to go back home to Japan." She sighed and and looked down at the ground she prayed he remembered.
Sherlock stared hard. No scars... couldn't be a sex change could it? Either way, this... girl.. woman, whatever in front of him just brought up some bitter memories he didn't care to remember. "I don't even want to know." He said bitterly and walked right past her, opening the door and walking in, about to slam it in her face.
"Sherlock wait ...please?" She hit the door with the palm of her hand meekly and sighed. This was not how she had plan it to go. Did he really hate her that much for leaving him behind? Did he realize how much it killed her inside that she could never keep in touch? To never see his face until she was old enough to leave on her own?
Sherlock paused slightly, but then continued up the stairs quickly, going right into the flat. John had moved out while he had thought Sherlock was dead, and Sherlock was having trouble locating his friend, the only friend he considered. Mrs. Hudson never came up to the flat anymore, so it was almost like he was just a ghost.
"It's about Watson!" She yelled up hoping that would get his attention. If she couldn't get him to see that she was here for him then maybe the case file she held in her hand would.
Sherlock stopped when he heard what she said. Grabbing the cigarettes, he shoved he bag of food in the trudge and came back downstairs. "Now you're speaking something worth listening to."
She sighed and looked up at him with a slight bit of anger and a lot of depression. She guess she had been living in a delusion so long that she thought maybe she could have her only friend back. "He's been kidnapped." SHe told him folding the file but ready to snatch it away if he tried to get at it.
Sherlock did reach for the file, but when she snatched it away, his eyes narrowed at her. "And why, if you refuse to show me what evidence you have, should I believe you?"
"I will show you. I just want to know why you turned me way." Yumiko stood the feeling the pain in her chest as she looked at his face. She remembered all that her father had ever said to her and it killed her all over again. She would never be wanted, she would never be loved, and even if she did go running back to London she would disgust the one she had longed to see.
Sherlock glared. "That is not important." he said coldly. He hated being reminded of the friend that abandoned him, as he hated anything that was dug up from the past. As far as friends were concerned, John was the only one Sherlock cared for anymore.
She looked down at the file and knew that if they waited too long it could spell death for the doctor. "You want even give me a chance to explain will you?" She asked.
"Not particularly. We should find John first." Sherlock said, impatient for such details.
Her heart was breaking but she hid it to the best of her ability. "He's in Moscow being held captive. He's being held by some of Moriarty's employees as well as some as smart as Moriarty. Inoue Shinzo, former Japanese Prime minister. He is powerful enough to cause nuclear war. He has John Watson, in the abandon warehouse locked away toward the back in the old building by the bridge." She handed him the file with all the details and picture she had gotten to the warehouse it's self. "You're welcome." she said handing him the file and without waiting she started to walk away.
Sherlock looked through the file and remembered another time where he was handed a file that was made to look real. He walked right behind Yumiko and grabbed her arm. "What, you're not going to join me?"
"I did my part Sherlock." She said not daring to look at him for fear of showing how she was truly feeling. She knew for way back that he hated see girls cry. And though she wasn't crying she was still in pain. "It's all there in the file. I promise you it's authentic and if you truly want me to prove it I will lead you to the warehouse. But otherwise... my job here is done." But she hadn't come this far just for the job she had come back to see the one person in her life that had once proven that he would always be there. But now that was all just a childish girlie dream.
"Lead me to the warehouse." Sherlock said. This was just all too odd for his liking. Randomly showing up, digging up the past that might or might not have to do with the person in front of him, then giving him random information and leaving? This didn't go well in his mind, and he always knew to trust his mind over anything. He wanted to know more about this mysterious person. "..I never even got your name."
"Yumiko... Niikura Yumiko." She replied still not looking at man that held her arm. "Or as you might remember me.." she turn to looked up at him and with her free hand pulled he hair back as a few of the short strands fell. "Niikura Yuki."
Sherlock recognised the last name right off, and when Yumiko confirmed what he had originally thought, Sherlock's eyebrows pulled together in confusion. "But... you were a male... and now you're a female but show no scars from surgery?" he questioned. Now he kind of felt like an ass, but he didn't show that on his face.
Yumiko giggled softly and gave the man a soft, sweet smile. "The reason for that is because I did most of it naturally sort of." she took out a small bottle of estrogen and held it up. "My breast grew on their own and the only surgery I went for was an experimental once where they used my own DNA to create a brand new reproductive system. so I am 100% female now."
Sherlock nodded. "I see then." he said and cleared his throat. "I owe you an apology then."
"For what?" She asked. "You did nothing wrong." she turned to face him completely and realized the man was exactly a foot taller then she was.
"I was rude earlier..." Sherlock said and let out a sigh. "I'm still bitter about you leaving."
She gave him a sad but sweet smile. "I understand and I don't blame you. But please know that I had no choice. I was forced to leave with my father after my mother had died." She looked down at the ground avoiding eye contacted again. "when my father realized how infatuated with you I was he forbid me to keep contacted ever. But when I had the surgery done he disowned me and said that I dishonored the family. He also told me that even if I went looking for you you would find me a disgrace and hate me as well."
Now Sherlock really did feel like an ass. Awkwardly, he put a hand on her cheek, and also a little under her chin, lifting her face to look up at him. He did something odd, even for him, something he'd only done once with Molly and usually only to Mrs. Hudson. He kissed her cheek, the opposite one of his hand. "I'm sorry Yumiko.."
Caught in the moment she smiled a little brighter. "Thank you she said softly and with out caring that he would be even remotely uncomfortable she wrapped her arm around him in a hug. It was when she saw the file in his hand did she remember the case. "Do you want my help to save him?" she asked.
Sherlock had absolutely no idea what to do when she hugged him, so he just patted her on her back gently. When she looked down at the folder and spoke again, Sherlock nodded. "I would greatly appreciate the help."
She nodded and took his hand. "Then we have no time to waist. Go, pack your bag I will have a car ready for us by the time you are done."
Sherlock nodded and let his hand slip from hers as he went back into the flat to pack a duffle. It was small, but the genius managed to get plenty of what he would need into it. Separately, he packed his violin into it's case. He wasn't about to go without it.
She did as she said she would and got a car ready for the both of them. He bags were already in the back along with a few weapons she was almost she they'd need.
Sherlock came down the stairs quickly and went to the car, tossing his stuff in the back. "Ah Moscow... I haven't been there in so long."
"It's going to take a few hours to get so..." She paused unsure if she should even ask. "Would you like to catch up?"
"As long as it's not boring on my part, I don't mind." Sherlock said. He always found talking about his past to be the most boring and dull things ever.
She explained how her father had found out about how she truly felt about the man sitting before her and how he would beat her for it. "My son is no fag!" she said imitating. She had been in and out of the hospital several times since she had come out to her father. But what had almost killed her was when she told her father that his son was his daughter. She had almost paid with her life. Shortly after joining college she found work in host clubs and saved the money from that to pay for the surgery. She had also informed him that even though she could never keep in contact she had managed to find a way to keep an eye on him. "Though I can assure it was most definitely not Moriarty." She giggled.
Sherlock all the while had listened closely to her story and shook his head at her final thought. "I would hope not."
Yumiko laughed a little as they had reached the airport to catch their flight to Moscow. "Sorry if I bored you at all it's just been so long." She explained.
Again, Sherlock shook his head. "No." he said quickly. He got out of the car and with long legged strides, he made it to her door and opened it for her. "I enjoyed hearing more about you."
"Arigato gozaimasu." She said with a slight bow as she got out of the car. "I would love to hear about you as well my friend."
"There isn't much to say really." Sherlock said, now a bit uncomfortable. He didn't even tell John much about his past. "Mycroft is still an ass."
"So I noticed." She laughed and took Sherlock's hand subconsciously and pulled him toward the plane.
Sherlock couldn't help but to smile slightly as he followed after her, his violin case in his hand. He wasn't worried about the duffle bag going under, but there was no way he'd put his precious violin in the cargo hold.
She smiled when she noticed what was in his other hand. "Too bad there is no piano on board." She said softly as she lead him onto the plan.
Sherlock nodded at the sort of fonder memories. "I wouldn't mind that as well really." he said.
"I know, I miss the times in school we use to sit a play together." She reminisced. She sat down on the one of the seat. She turned to look up at her friend's gorgeous pale blue eye. "Do you remember the time we played in front of the whole town and your brother got jealous because we got the standing ovation and he got booed off stage?" she giggled at the memory.
Sherlock grinned. "Oh yes, I remember it quite well." he said. Anything that had to do with Mycroft suffering he remembered very well.
The girl smiled and patted the seat beside her. "Come sit while we reminisce with me?" She knew that he was anxious to get his hands on their guys.
Sherlock didn't feel like reminiscing too much, but he sat down next to her after putting his violin in the overhead compartment. He let his head lean back against the chair and let out a soft sigh.
She placed a warm gentle hand on his knee. "Sorry," She said softly and rested her head on his shoulder. "you look like you could use the rest."
