-How did you end up on Elftown?
well I was having a looksy at the fanart gallery at the Aussie author Cecilia Dart-Thornton'
s website when I came across a link to Elfwood... So I browsed Elfwood for a while thinking... dude why don't I join up! but I never did cause I was still only working in traditional mediums then, and most were way too big to scan, so I just kept poking around and stumbled upon Elftown. I almost wasn't going to sign up, cause I am not all that good at the whole community thing, but Elftown just seems to really work for me, so I am glad I joined :D
wow! long way to say a short story XD
What do you like most about fantasy?
The fact that I can escape into my own little world, or visit somebody else's world, and that I don't have to be me for a while. I guess it is also a way where those of us that can't go adventuring can. I mean I can't exactly drop everything and dash off halfway across the world or anything like that, the kids have school, my partner has work... and I have a neverending list of housework that needs doing, so fantasy is a way to escape all that :D It is also an outlet for me... especially with my art... my brain seems to always be going a million miles a minute... with all sorts of thoughts and images that I need to get them out onto paper... the same goes for my writing, which is something I don't do very often as I don't have the patience XD.
:P
Do you consider yourself to be an artist/art-lover in general or is it mostly the fantasy-aspect that attracts you?
No definitely the art. Meeting people, Role-playing and that whole shebang is like an added extra.... for me it will always be about the art :) (I am including in that music, writing and all that kewl creative stuff in that statement) I love meeting new people and chatting and all that, but I don't think I would have stayed without the art I have seen and other artists I have met. I am kinda isolated where I live and rarely get into any sort of contact with any other artists... especially digital artists so it's been a great learning experience for me :)
Do you consider yourself to be a full time digital artist or do you sometimes prefer to work with traditional mediums?
That is a hard question to answer... I really don't consider myself a full time digital artist even though 90% of my art at the moment is done on the computer. I started in more traditional mediums... mostly acrylic paints and occasionally dabbling with oils, but after having my daughter (who is now 1 year old) I find that it is to hard to work in traditional mediums... you really need the time to set up and you just can't leave in the middle of a painting to go chasing after a toddler... so digital is so much easier. In fact these days the only time I work with traditional mediums is for commissions or requests (most which seem to come from my mum, I do traditional medium artwork freebies for family only). I love working on the computer and I would really like to get good enough to work in comics or some sort of illustration, for those of you wondering my weapon of choice is Gimp (a free ware image manipulation program, mainly cause I am to cheap to go out and buy a program).
I am still a novice when it comes to art, I had only been working with traditional mediums for about a year when I transfered to digital (which was sometime in April '05 :P) and so I have so much yet to learn... o.O hmmm I seem to be rambling again... a very bad habit of mine >.> but hey... gotta have a few bad habits :) makes a girl more interesting :P
Did you take art classes or are you self-taught?
I went to an in-home art class once, it was at the home of a nice lady who lived a few streets away from me >.> but I actually wasn't taught anything, because she thought I painted fine all on my own... so I found a nice little corner and painted while listening to all the other ladies gossiping (they were all over 50) and I was quite shocked at what ladies of that age gossip about 0.0 (the conversation involving batteries, giggling and *blushes*), they were nice but I only went for about 2 months. My Eldest daughter wasn't in school at the time and I had trouble finding babysitters.
How often do you change your house?
It used to be whenever I finish an artwork, or want to display current progress :D but at the moment I am keeping my house fairly empty.
How would you describe your art
My art.... hmmmmm I really don't put alot of thought into it... I guess because it is rare that I will do a major work just for the pleasure of it. I love drawing people... and at the moment I am into drawing emotional pics... you know that sappy romantic stuff, but I guess my work is kinda cartoonish... almost naive. If you are wondering what I mean, well when you look at some peoples artwork and it just screams maturity, and somberness and stuff (o.O ummm... I think I just made up a word there) and it seems to be overly laden with meaning and can reflect political views, religion and all that stuff but when I look at mine, I feel it lacks something sometimes... it's bright, straightforward, has no real hidden meaning, and I think optimistic... it's rare I will paint or draw something macabre... thats just not me, I like to be happy and I avoid conflict if I can... I guess my art is a lot like me, childish... to the point and somewhat erratic. Though lately I think my work is evolving somewhat... I guess as I grow older, more mature and more confident... so does my artiness :)
What is it you do mostly on Elftown? (chat/build/wiki’s etc.)?
I am sad to say that I haven't had as much time for Elftown lately, I used to contribute a bit more to the art contests etc, but now I mainly come to Rp and catch up with friends. Occasionally I still enter a art contest that appeals to me but other than that... :P.
I am afraid real life has caught up with me!
Is there a particular thing you like about Elftown, such as a specific wiki?
not really... I do hang out at the Black Arrow Tavern a great deal, or used to before life got so hectic, but now I mainly like to visit friends, and browse around looking for interesting things.
Is there a member who’s house you really like yourself? Why do you like that house?
Well there are a few houses i like to visit.
[travs the bean] because he always has awesome art to have a look at...
[Ri'hala] cause I get a good laugh whenever I browse through her house...
[Sunrose] cause I love to keep track of her featured art...
[pixish] cause she is so luffly and has lotsa interesting things to look at...
and there are so many more, but I will leave it at that as there really are to many to name :D
Have any critique/comments/suggestions/admiration etc. on a specific Elftown matter?
I love Elftown, it's a great place to meet new people etc. It's a community and as such there is a great diversity of people who come here. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this place... even those pesky peeps who msg with invitations to you now :insert raised eyebrows: create atmosphere... there is always someone new to meet, or a new place to find. It's fantastic!
What is your message to all Elftowners?
Just be yourselves I guess, and always do what you feel right. I guess I just feel it is important to try and remain positive, even when you are down, you have to remember that things change, things happen that will knock you on your ass, you just have to get back up again and push on, things will get better, they always do :D
Oh and kiddies don't litter, be nice to your mothers, and don't give up on your dreams (just revise them a little) :P
