Ramun entered the arena before the others and came across the referee. He approached the female reading a book and said to her, "Hello there madam. I would like to request an arena match between one of your creatures and my group. Let's say a circus maximus with a normal level creature."
Arryk slipped into the arena, sparing a moment to glance around. Striding up to Ramun, Arryk stopped to look down at the referee.
"Only the two of you then?"
Amelia said, walking towards one of the great iron portcullises the area had. "I'll see what I can get out of the pits."
"What? I'm fighting too!" said
Maabo entering the Arena. She had gotten distracted by an ugly looking peasant outside for a minute and now they were ready to abandon her and fight alone, she thought grumbling.
"Oh, alright then. Let's see... Ah, yes, this will be a nice challenge for the three of you."
Amelia said, while pulling a switch next to a portcullis. With a sound like the rattling of chains, the great iron door in the center of the arena was lowered, and mere moments later, came back up again, revealing a human in rags. Only this human seemed to be decaying, his bones showing in some places, and he walked as if held up by invisible strings.
Battle has begun!
Turns and positions are as follows:
Ramun (-3/12) O12
Maabo (-3/10) O14
Arryk (-2/8) P14
Zombie (11/32) O13
Ramun's turn!
Ramun put a little more distance between him and the zombie and took a magic casting stance. Ramun concentrated on the zombie and fought back the itch in the back of his mind. He prepared to cast
Falling Star at the zombie.
For a moment, nothing seemed to happen, but then a bright light appeared in the distant sky behind the zombie, heading towards it at a great speed. Sadly for Ramun, the meteorite hit the ground with a soft 'Thump!' two feet short of the zombie, leaving a scorched hole in the ground, and the zombie unharmed!
Maabo's turn!
A lot less elaborate than Ramun,
Maabo just started running towards the zombie. Half the way up though she stopped (O14) and threw the small dagger she still was carrying towards the undead's head.
The dagger flew straight towards the zombie, and hit it right in the neck, ripping apart the weak decaying flesh and dealing 10 damage! The zombie head was now loosely wobbling on top of the creature's head, but it still managed to let out a creepy moan.
Arryk's turn!
Not wanting to be the first to take the damage with low constitution,
Arryk moved up to P14, behind Maabo, and threw a shuriken at the undead, trying to finish off Maabo's work of dispatching the head.
The shuriken whirled towards the zombie, but the decaying sack of meat merely raised its arm, almost lazily, it seemed, and the shuriken lodged itself in the fist. Nothing fell off though. The zombie didn't even moan. In fact, it hadn't taken any damage at all, but Arryk had managed to lodge a sharp pointy object in its fist, which it would now return to them!
The zombie walked forward, and the fist with the sharp shuriken stuck into it was swung towards Maabo's face!
"Ah!! You coward!" yelled
Maabo. She was talking to Arryk, hiding behind her, though she didn't turn to look at the Dah'kin while she attempted to deflect the zombie's attack with her sword.
The zombie's powerful fist went easily past Maabo's defense and smashed her squarely in the face, breaking many of the bones and tearing her skin! Unconscious, Maabo fell to the ground neatly and with her face up, or what vaguely resembled her face since it was mostly a mass of bloody pulp.
Ramun's turn!
Arryk took a quick side-glance at the unconscious Maabo, and wondered what might have befell him had he taken the blow.
Ramun watched the zombie strike down Maabo, and spoke a hushed curse to himself. He moved in a little closer to the zombie and casted
Flame.
The zombie didn't have much chance to evade Ramun's flames; they scorched its flesh for 3 damage!
Arryk's turn!
Knowing that Ramun was probably their only chance of victory,
Arryk stepped up within melee range of the zombie, and swung his scimitar at it. It was an attempt to keep its attention away from the mage, and buy Ramun some time.
Arryk went swiftly past the slow zombie's defense, stabbed the zombie in the gut, dealing 6 damage, and made a neat hole in its body. A few rotten guts spilled out and dangled from its torso.
The zombie immediately turned at Arryk and tried to bite him!
Instead of attempting to block the attack with his blade,
Arryk tried to dodge out of its way.
The unfortunate zombie's head spun around as its teeth flailed about. As it tried to bite the space where Arryk had been a relatively long moment ago, it missed and fell down on the ground instead!
Ramun's turn!
Ramun smiled at the antics of the dah'kin, and still regretted the death of Maabo. He focused on the zombie, and used the last of his magical energy to cast
Flame at the decaying creature.
Again, and now especially, the zombie didn't really have a chance at evading the flames and was burned for 2 damage!
Arryk's turn!
Taking his chances while the zombie was prone,
Arryk stabbed at the undead's back once more, trying to pin the creature to the ground.
Unfortunately, the zombie managed to swat away Arryk's sword even while it was face down on the ground.
The zombie then got up, swinging its fist at Arryk's head!
Although afraid that he might be pushing his luck, Arryk attempted to dodge out of harm's way once more.
The dodge resulted in Arryk's demise for the zombie smashed his face in as well, breaking his jaw and tearing open his cheeks while dealing 10 damage! The zombie turned its very loosely attached head toward Ramun.
Ramun's turn!
Ramun cursed the death of both combatants, and eyed the zombie. He noticed the flapping head and an idea ran through his mind. Ramun held his staff by one end, and stepped into range of the zombie. He brought his staff through the air like a mighty baseball bat in an attempt to remove the zombie's head.
The zombie easily blocked Ramun's attack! It then plunged at him, trying to bite him now.
Ramun ran away from the zombie, putting as much distance as he could between the two of them.
Unfortunately Ramun wasn't exactly a fast mover, and the zombie managed to swing its head around his neck and eat his throat, dealing 15 damage!
Battle ended!
Amelia shooed the zombie away from Ramun's throat and locked it in its cage again. She stood around for a short moment, shaking her head and then casted a mass healing spell. Arryk and Maabo retained some scars on their faces and Ramun's throat seemed like someone had tried to bite his head off. When the fighters started getting up, Amelia said, smiling: "Just a tip, children. You don't look that fast, so I recommend you try to block whatever comes your way." She looked at Ramun and Arryk in particular.
Everyone's HP was restored!
Maabo stood up grabbing her head with her hands. "Buhuhuh! My beautifull face!" she cried. "Stupid zombie! I'll be back, you hear?!" she threatened the caged zombie, who probably didn't get any of what she was saying. "Rraagh!" she groaned.
"Now now, it barely shows from under all that fur," said
Amelia comfortingly.
"Coward,"
Arryk muttered to Maabo behind her back. "Thank you miss for the challenge," he said, accompanied by an almost mocking bow. Without another word, he turned and left for the
lemerian colosseum.
Ramun stood and massaged his throat, he looked to the Arena Master and smiled. "How kind of you to choose such a beast for us, I will remember next time to choose my words more wisely with you." he said to her. He slowly turned waving to her, and left for the
Lemirian Colosseum.
"Coward!?"
Maabo exclaimed after Arryk spoke. "You - you silly Dah'kin, you'll see who you're messing with!", she threatened again, pointing a finger towards him. "Rraagh!" she groaned once more and left to the
Lemirian Colosseum hitting the ground with her feet.
