Caregon
Caregon is of a subrace to the wood elves called the asrai. having spent so long in a particular forest called the Darkwald by the inhabitants of nearby human settlements, and athel-loren by the asrai, the asrai aren't exactly elves in the strictest sense, but part of athel loren. the forest is not evil any more than it is good. it's just sentient, and it recognises the wood elves that settled amogst athel loren are a useful means of defense against beings that would wish to harvest the forest's trees. henceforth, the spirits of athel-loren have imprinted a fragment of their being on the asrai, to make them both elven, and a forest spirit at the same time. there is little outward effect, but the asrai have an overpowering instinct that athel loren must be defended to their dying breath. the asrai however, do not view this bond as making them slaves in any way. they are left alone by the numerous carpicious sprites that wouldn't think twice about slaying a human insurgent if the forest. and are free to live in athel loren as they choose, provided their service in defence of the forest does more good than harm to the woods.
caregon is a wilder kindred, a mage...to a certain extent, although he doesn't see it that way. spellcasters of the asrai are usually female, this is because the magic of athel loren offered to the male asrai is no less potent, but far more dangerous. when a female casts the emerald magic of athel loren, she coerces the forest into helping her. males must assert their animal dominance by mentally forcing the forest to help him. athel loren doesn't see this as inpolite... it is simply expected of male animals to be more hot-headed and agressive than females. as a result, male magic of athel loren brings a latent bestial energy to the surface. drawing on these energies too much at once can result in short periods of animal behaviour, repeated use will bring physical features to the surface, and excessive use can break a wilder kindred's mind alltogether, leaving him no better than a primative savage.
caregon is young, by elven standards at least. at 57 years, he has become competent with his magic, but has never needed to call on it enough to leave himself at the mercy of his animal energies. he is well mannered, but quiet. preferring the company of beasts and sprites more than other asrai, communicating with them through a small amount of magic, he is fond of the simplicity of animal language, they seem almost incapable of lying as most of their language is expressed through emotion, it is a lot harder to 'fake it'.
caregon is aware that he could draw on far more power if he wanted, but has no intention on losing his sanity except as a last resort to defend his home as a result, his spells are confined to minor parlour tricks that would be of little use in a fight (athel loren demands something of one's identity for that much power).
Caregon is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, slim and in good physical shape (as with almost all elves), with long dirty unkempt brown-red hair. his eyes are bright blue, and he wears a plain, unassuming green/brown tunic and cloak, a slim curved longsword hanging from his belt.
